Abortion is worse than rape, according to the church
Stepfather rapes 9-year-old girl. Girl becomes pregnant with twins. Doctor performs abortion on girl. Church excommunicates mother, doctor and medical team. But NOT stepfather.
W..T..F..
Because according to Archbishop Don Jose Cardoso Sobrinho of Recife and the CNN news article,
“A graver act than (rape) is abortion, to eliminate an innocent life.”
This guy has been raping his stepdaughter since she was 6, and admits to this abuse as well as to raping her physically disabled sister. The church overlooks the fact that she was *PREGNANT* after being *RAPED* for *THREE YEARS* by her *STEPFATHER*, but all that pales in comparison to the fact that, to save her from having to bear twins from this situation, she received an *ABORTION*.
W..T..F..
In case you’re wondering, Brazilian law bans abortion except in cases of rape or when the mother’s life is endangered. Doctors agreed that both reasons applied to the girl in this case.
Oh, and the reason why the child wasn’t excommunicated? The Catholic Church law says minors are exempt from excommunication. Again, according to Sobrinho:
“The church is benevolent when it comes to minors”.
So she won’t be penalized for the abortion, but she’ll just have to deal with the rape.
And people wonder why I think organized religion is such a crock of shit.
